2009 jams.
way to go RELAPSE RECORDS!

zombi - spirit animal.
coalesce - ox.
voivod - infini.

other shit:

the life and times - tragic boogie.
my favorite thus far.  allen's melodies get better with each release and the man sure does know how to sing 'em.  it's a fairly out-there record (for them), too.

mastodon - crack the skye.

some cool shit happening in okc, too.
engine orchestra, negative negative (artists formerly known as GRAVITY PROPULSION SYSTEM) and depth and current all have excellent new EPs.  new student film LP on little mafia records, too.

i need to get my hands on the new PAPER CHASE record.

anxiously awaiting the new album from our portland, oregon bros PRIZE COUNTRY as well.

i'm also expecting the new BARONESS to kick me in the balls.

some late-for-dinner 2008 entries:

zebulon pike - intransience
face-melting instrumental prog-metal from minneapolis.  our good friend, tom berg, from self-evident started playing with them not too long ago.  this is a 3-track album that takes you on a face fuck of a ride.  they're incredible live, too.  check them out if you can.

the week that was  - s/t.

the night marchers - see you in magic.
this is the newest project from john reis of rocket from the crypt/drive like jehu/hot snakes-fame.

intronaut - prehistoricisms.

who's got what?  anything?  deliver!

2009 jams.
good picks J.

best things I've heard this year;

"I Am Forever"
"Tragic Boogie"

Throttlerod - "Pig Charmer" (Richmond, VA band, sounds like Unsane meets Dixie Witch, heavy rock)

Keelhaul - "Keelhaul's Triumphant Return To Obscurity" (Cleveland band...mostly instrumental, heavier than most hard rock bands, with a sprinkle of prog...but mostly beat you over the head mind boggling heavy time changing jams)

Pelican - "Ephemeral" (Chicago instrumental, shares some similarities to the band Isis, 'epic' long heavy note progression. this EP is a return to form.

YOB - "The Great Cessation" (Doom legends from Portland, OR - diffinitely worth checking out)
http://www.myspace.com/yobdoom

Kylesa - "Static Tensions" (another southern prog band? same brethren as Mastodon and Baroness, can be as heavy of more than both bands. good music)

looking forward to:
Baroness - Blue Album
Solace - A.D. (jersey stoner metal, sabbath meets soundgarden meets High on Fire)
The Brought Low (NYC band, Joe Walsh meets Black Crowes meets old school Aerosmith)
